What is Krill oil?
Krill is a sea invertebrate that is similar to a shrimp. Its oil is particularly prized for its high omega 3 content; in fact it is one of the best omega 3 sources available to us.

Krill oil is particularly high source of Omega 3. It is thought to be more potent than fish oil, meaning you need to take less of it. Omega 3 plays many roles in the body. It is required for the creation of something known as prostaglandin series 3. Prostaglandins series 3 is used in the anti-inflammatory processes in the body.

Omega 3 (containing EPA and DHA) has many roles within the body which include:
• Contributes to the maintenance of normal vision (DHA)
• Contributes to the maintenance of normal blood triglyceride levels (EPA, DHA)
• Contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function (DHA)
• Contribute to the maintenance of normal blood pressure (EPA, DHA)
• Maternal intake contributes to the normal development of the eyes and brain development of the foetus and breastfed infants (DHA)
• Contributes to the normal visual development of infants up to the age of 12 months (DHA)
• Contributes to the normal function of the heart (EPA, DHA)

Why do I need krill oil?
For optimal health, omega 3 must be in ratio to omega 6, 1:2. Our typical western diets however tend to be omega 6 heavy, in fact in some cases are as high as omega 3 to 6 ratio of 1:15!
Adding in krill oil is a great start at consuming more omega 3 and correcting the balance of fats within the body.
Krill being small creatures are far less likely to be contaminated with heavy metals than larger fish are.

How do I take krill oil?
Krill oil is available in soft gels. The dose can be split throughout the day or can be taken at once. It is best to consume with a meal.
