Description
New Zealands Manuka honey is collected by honey-bees from the Manuka tree (Leptospermum scoparium), a unique New Zealand plant well-known for its medicinal properties. All honey is anti-bacterial or antiseptic but it was Dr Peter Molan who discovered that some Manuka Honey had additional anti-bacterial properties not found in other honeys.
This unique anti-bacterial activity is stable to heat, light and body enzymes and called UMF “Unique Manuka Factor”. The UMF rating is determined through testing by an independent commercial laboratory. UMF10 is the minimum rating with a higher rating showing a correspondingly higher level of anti-bacterial activity. Besides these medicinal properties this product also has a wide appeal as a pleasurable eating experience! Propolis is a natural resin collected by the honeybee from trees and plants.
The bees mix it with their own enzymes and beeswax and seal the hive protecting it against disease. Propolis performs the role of the immune system for the hive acting as a combin antibiotic, antiviral and antifungal substance. Propolis is a natural antibiotic with no side effects and is Rich in Active components, antioxidants. Over 180 compounds have been found within it including 16 amino acids and almost all the range of vitamins. Biofavonoids in Propolis are responsible for anti-oxidant activity. Honey New Zealand measures the quantity mg per gram of biofavonoids in its Propolis (BIO rating). In independent Studies conducted by Industrial Research Institute (IRL), the biofavonoid levels of New Zealand sourced Propolis was found to be twice as high compared to Propolis from other major producing countries.
