What are heart supplements?
Heart supplements are specifically formulated to support your heart and blood vessels. They contain nutrients and herbs that are specifically beneficial for this area.
What do heart supplements do in the body?
Heart supplements often include:
Arginine - a pre-curser to nitric oxide; nitric oxide causes your blood vessels to expand, which increases blood flow and decreases blood pressure.
Carnitine - found abundantly in the heart and skeletal muscles. More than 70% of your total body protein is found in these muscles.
B vitamins - especially B1, are required for the normal function of the heart. The B vitamins work together and enhance the activity of each other.
Potassium - which works in many ways, one of which is reducing blood pressure and relieving the stress put on your heart, the other is by aiding muscle function. Your heart is of course a muscle.
Magnesium - important for normal muscle function, including the heart muscle. It is required for normal neurotransmission and heart contraction.
Hawthorn - a herb which may support the normal function of the heart and cardiovascular system.
Garlic - may help maintain normal cholesterol and homocysteine levels.
CoQ10 - a vitamin-like substance that plays a key role in the body’s energy production cycle. Your heart muscle requires a lot of energy to function. TMG (Tri-methyl Glycine) is required for healthy methylation and normal homocysteine levels.
Omega 3 (DHA and EPA) - contributes to normal blood triglyceride levels and normal blood pressure.
Why do I need heart supplements?
Heart disease is the biggest killer in the UK. With this in mind, it is good for everyone to decrease their cardiovascular risk factor. Adding a heart supplement to a heart healthy diet and lifestyle may be of benefit.
How do I take heart supplements?
Complexes come in tablets and capsules. They need to be taken with foods, unless otherwise stated. Our Nutritionists recommend combining a heat complex with fish oils for a double dose of heart health!
